Restaurateur
and author Frank Reider first experimented with wines at his friends’ wine
dinners in Rio de Janeiro. This led to a passion for Bordeaux classics. Soon
his five-star hotels in Brazil possessed some of the best wine cartes in the country.
While in
Brazil, Frank was head of corporate lending for Chase Manhattan Bank and started
the first glossy tourism magazine in the country, The Brazil Visitor and its
predecessor The Rio Visitor.
Since 1997
Frank has lived in southern Florida, where in 2006 he opened his highly-rated GOL!
The Taste of Brazil, a Churrascaria (Brazilian-style steak house) in
Delray Beach. His wine list has won numerous awards, including Wine Spectator’s
Award of Excellence during all 5 years of operation.
Working with representatives from wine
distributors, Frank began to taste South American wines and found many
gems,
leading to a growing admiration for the talent, dedication, and passion
of
South American winemakers. He believes they have carved out a place for
themselves in the world market by investing in education and creating
great
quality wines at affordable prices-- factors which seduced even
traditional
European wine houses to invest in the wines of Chile and Argentina for
their
optimal hang time and the countrys’ terroir;
the perfect setting for talented wine makers to showcase their
creativity
by developing subtle and complex wines. Frank transformed his knowledge
of
Chilean and Argentine wines into a book,Wines of Passion: The Best of South America is available
